Has anyone experienced psychosis as a result of Parkinson’s medication?

A relative of mine is experiencing this and it is awful. I want to know if there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
Medical professionals are not giving answers and this has been going on for almost 6 months. The medication causing the psychosis has been taken off him but the psychosis has not stopped. He is now on anti-psychotic medication which makes his movement worse.

There are a lot of discussions on both about side effects of medication and what you could do to find a sollution.

Hope these are of some help to you :)

Are you sure they are taking their Parkinson’s meds at regular intervals? Meaning they arent skipping doses and they are taking them as prescribed?

Unfortunately, the reason I state this is, the number one reason for hallucinations regarding antiParkinsons meds is due to non-compliance.

If its not due to non-compliance, it means the dose is ineffective and needs to be higher.

Delirium is one of the most common unfortunate side effects of untreated Parkinson’s disease, and when it arises in a Parkinsons patient, it allows the family and healthcare team to know that the patient needs an adjustment to their dose or that they arent taking their meds.

Have they recently started taking this medication? It can take a couple weeks for the medication to get adjusted in the body, meaning the hallucinations wont go right away, it takes time.

The most important thing is for your relative to keep taking the medication, even if it is causing the psychosis until he or she can get to the doctor and let the doctor titrate the dose and switch to something else, if need be.

I hoped that helped.

YES!!!!!!!!!!! Correct dosages are critical. Let your doctor know immediately so he/she can adjust or suggest an alternative. You should not ever experience psychosis from meds. Meds are supposed to help keep you from experienceing these symptoms.
