He’s like the rest of the celebs/actors/singers who have won gongs, fabulously rich and famous, living in Utopia compared to the rest of us – ahh, they deserve a little something more don’t they? Bless ‘em, bless ‘em all.

Can’t understand it. Think it’s reached the point where hundreds of well known names are put in a sack and then it’s all down to a lucky dip. Some people rate him, think it’s more to do with his guests, he never looked that comfortable to me.

i put the same question on here a few days ago , nice guy but he has been doing a job he’s enjoyed for many years and has made a good living out of it , These awards should be for people who deserve them ,someone who has been courageous and have done something good for their country , not for the likes of him who has been asking the same lame questions to the same guests for decades

I tell you who I really respect and I am ashamed at this point cos always forget her name – that Journalist/ writer who gave hers back in protest. I saw her speak at a memorial event for Stephen Lawrence, very impressive woman.

I think Michael Parkinson is a television icon. He is an excellent role model and has contributed enormously to broadcasting for over 40 years. I do think he is far more deserving of an honour than most of the people who get them.

But I do agree that there are many many people who are not in the public eye, I’m sure we all know people, who are deserving of an OBE/CBE/Knighthood but will never get one because they are not in the public eye. It is an ironic situation but if it is going to be predominantly famous people, I would rather it go to Parky.

I’m not a lover of the British honours system, but he deserved his knighthood far more than Tom Kelly, the civil servant who "put the boot" into Dr David Kelly, and Richard Summersgill who was in charge of the department which "lost" the personal details of every family in the UK. Incredible how the incompetent get rewarded in this country! I wonder how many more faceless bureacratic muddlers are awarded gongs for damaging society instead of enriching it?
