Any nominations and why?

This isn’t a jibe at Ms Goody – I’m simply wondering who is a good role model?
I ‘researched’ opinions about David Beckham in another category

A good role model would be David Beckham

I feel heartfelt sorry for the family of jade going through her loss. However, she was NOT a role model at all.

Proud♥2bEnglish♥ // September 18th, 2009 - 5:13 am

hes a silly old man who wants to get into all the press now

I feel very sorry for Jade and her family.

However…
I’m watching Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes right now. One of the best actors I’ve ever seen and he’s been dead 15 years.

personally someone who’s worked hard to get out of their environment and make a good life for themselves, famous or otherwise!

i’d prefer parky as a role model, but the sad fact is jade goody IS a role model to thousands, so this is just the start of it there will now be an influx of talentless wasters coming out of the woodwork, the ship is going down.

Skidoo // September 18th, 2009 - 5:13 am

Anyone in film, tv, music, radio who keeps their private lives to themselves!

I don’t really believe in role models. Everyone has faults. You can admire someone’s abilities, or their alturism – but there are normally flaws somewhere along the line.

People have to have the strength to do what’s right for themselves – not because David Beckham thinks so.

Edit: Exactly – like the guy above me says – Beckham had affairs, so isn’t necessarily a great role model. However, he had the drive and ambition and talent to get where he is today without being a gobshite and without getting drunk and doing his womanising in public. He is also a great father and probably a good husband in many ways. So he represents all role models to me. Great and flawed. I suppose you can admire – just not idolise.

i’ve been thinking and do you know i cant think of one celebrity who would be the perfect role model, they either have drink problems, drug problems, eating disorders, hop in and out of bed with anything that moves, are mean and tightfisted, rude or have family problems. ms goody’s only crime was to be common. she left behind a better future and a better childhood for her kids than she herself had despite being on her deathbed. i’d say that was pretty inspirational. xx

MY ÁRSE HURTS! // September 18th, 2009 - 5:13 am

I think Jade Goody’s LESBO Mother!

Who?

Yeah right! // September 18th, 2009 - 5:13 am

Let’s ignore who said it, look at the content of what is said. How anybody can disagree with what he said is Beyond me, but then many people get brainwashed by the mainstream media and the cult of celebrity.

I think people need to look closer to home for their role models instead of looking towards the rich and famous.

I had favourite pop stars, film stars etc when I was growing up, but it was my Mum I looked towards to for a role model. She taught me manners and to respect myself and others. We are all flawed, but how can looking for famous people be any good?

We only hear what the press wants us to hear about them, so most of the time they are misrepresented anyway.

It may not be a jibe against Ms Goody, but it is mischief making at her expense, and she’s dead.

Nobody famous.
Most famous people have done or said terrible things, that we really shouldn’t want young people to look up to.
Certainly not Jade Goody.

Her being a role model sents out a message that it’s ok to racist, because when you die people will forgive you.
That’s probably going to casue an uproar, but I really don’t care.

It should be a surprise when someone famous dies,we shouldn’t be switching on the news every so often to make sure they haven’t died while we weren’t watching.

ILoveMe // September 18th, 2009 - 5:13 am

I can’t think of many people who would be a worse role model than Jade Goody. After his comments I would vote for Parky to become president of the universe. The only reason her husband was let out of jail on their wedding day was because she was famous and she was famous for being rascist and stupid. It should have been illegal for something like that to ever have offspring

I couldn’t believe what he said, the notion that some people are basically more important than others is beyond me. And what a time to say it?! A young mother has just died leaving her sons without their mother, it isn’t the time to start discussing how important she is to society, its an insult to this womans life which as a mother is at least as important of that of any celebrity, even a 2 bit chat show host. A chat show host who feels so strongly about who is important, or whose views matter, but then dedicated a whole show of his to a singer, and not even half a show to our then Prime Minister!

They would be all those who suffer and battle cancer every day, no-one you would have heard of necessarily, but people who go through their trials with dignity and self-respect.

Also, the people who help them – the Macmillan Nurses for example, or people who work in a hospice.
